Given that this is an Oldie... it's seriously Nice Work... I remember a series of similar pieces on Rend when I started to look at Mandelbulb a bit more seriously.. Still can't thank you enough for the pointers you gave me on Navigation, In/Out and colouring.... Wish I had the time to look into your mapping and lighting techniques but still use your Black/Grey light map a lot! Great for metallic objetcs

Lightmaps are easy, I generally use old Fractals Whole, since I most always use a 2:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio oldies work well for Maps and BGs without needing to change much.

Len I was referring to Light settings... rather than image maps,,,,Yes I saw this a lot in your old pieces when I looked at them but never was sure exactly how you could get them to map to a specific object, sphere for example.... I'm gonna note you in a minute...

Ah OK....Lighting is just something that comes natural to me, kinda like fractals themselves, from the first time I opened FE I knew I found my niche

Yep... same here but The likes of C4d and Maya have thought me a lot about CG lighting...photography too,,,

Just taking a look at your Variable Slip Diff piece... you used a custom map for the sphere... Mines showing up as a bright orange mandelbrot... Lol,,, But I have renamed and added my own custom maps so no surprise.. Thats the worst about sharing M3d params...

Just discovered too that there seemed to be a bug in Backround images .. couldn't get them to load at all and if they did they did not work as expected.. Some of the guys told me its because you can not have gaps, stripslashes etc in the name... and also to keep the named short.. M3d also does not like Subdirectories.. Perhaps the one criticism I have of the app is that,,, should allow for more flexibility in image names but perhaps it's too much of a memory hog...

Think images used to load alright if there were gaps etc... could be wrong though

Can be very cool using the backimage to light the scene. Have not tried to load a HDR tiff image and see what kind of results it gives...

Names of images for BG can not be longer than 16 characters, including gaps and special characters, not sure which but some special characters aren't allowed, but then I don't use them anyway, and of course for Maps they have to be sequentially numbered only. I have 3 Maps Folders and BG Folders, you just have to change the INI Dir to the one you want to use. You can sort of use BG as light, not really light but as Difuse Gradient.

Yep.. Similar set up to mine.. I have all my main folders )Params, formula. maps etc on a separate drive for safe keeping and have them mapped accordingly..

I'm just pulling a render at the moment of Variable Slip Differential with my map and reflections and transparency Looks kinda cool....

Should I post it here so you can have a look?
